ARG - Final four set in Copa

BUENOS AIRES (Copa Argentina) - Boca Juniors, Libertad, Regatas Corrientes and Penarol have made it into the Copa Argentina quadrangular final stage and will fight for the title next weekend.

In the two-legged semi-finals, hosts Boca thrashed Argentino of Junin 108-73 at La Bombonerita after a 10-month exile.

Leonardo Gutierrez poured in 19 points for Boca, winners of the past four editions of this championship, while Jonatan Slider contributed with 17.

In Corrientes, Regatas suffered again against Juventud Sionista, but finally booked their Final Stage place thanks to a 76-74 win on Sunday night.

Gonzalo Garcia’s team had Roberto Lopez in a good night with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Alejandro Montecchia netted 13 in 14 minutes.

They had won the previous game 75-74.

Libertad showed no mercy to giants Atenas, beating them 71-56 in Sunchales.

The team managed by Carlos Bualo had already won in Cordoba, so they only needed to ratify their ticket to the final stage at home.

Diego Cavaco was the game’s MVP with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Dionisio Gomez contributed with 17.

Finally on Monday night, Penarol won a very level duel, 69-65 over the Liga Nacional champions Gimnasia y Esgrima from Comodoro Rivadavia.

Gimnasia managed to escape in the scoreboard in the third quarter, winning it 19-8, but Penarol had a wonderful recovery in the last period (25-13) to clinch the triumph, with Gabriel Mikulas netting 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds.

The quadrangular final stage will take place in Rosario, from Friday to Sunday.
