Week-end important pour FIBA Afrique

ABIDJAN (Côte d'Ivoire) - Basketball will be front and center in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire's biggest city, over the next three days (Friday-Sunday).

Saturday will mark an exciting and historic occasion for African basketball and the sport's global family with the unveiling of FIBA Africa's new headquarters. The two-floor building sits on a 4,000 square meter plot of land on the banks of the Ebrie Lagoon in Abidjan's Treichville borough. The project has been carried out by FIBA together with the Africa regional office and in conjunction with the Côte d'Ivoire Ministry of Sports and Recreation and Ivorian government.

The inauguration will be made all the more special as it will be held in the presence of members of FIBA's Executive Committee and Central Board, as FIBA's two highest instances convene their first meetings of 2019 in Abidjan. The Executive Committee will get together on Friday, before the Central Board meets on Saturday-Sunday.

Meanwhile, on the court, the International Basketball Foundation (IBF) will hold the Young Lions Cup, an international 3x3 youth tournament, over the course of the three days. The youth leadership and basketball development project that is part of FIBA's Foundation has previously been staged twice in Southern Africa with this third edition marking the first time it is staged in the continent's western part.

Fifty-six (56) participants aged 18 and under will compete in the event and attend a Youth Leadership Workshop which sets out to equip the young leaders with the tools to use basketball in creating a positive impact within their communities. Click here for more information about the event.
