    Before reaching the NBA and senior national teams, many of the Americas’ top players, such as Carmelo Anthony and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, first showcased their talent on this stage.

    MIAMI (United States) – With the arrival of June, a new edition of the FIBA U18 AmeriCup will tip off, reaffirming its status as the continent’s premier youth basketball tournament and one of the most important platforms for identifying future stars across the Americas. Since its inception in 1990, the competition has served as a launching pad for numerous players who later excelled with their national teams and in the world’s top professional leagues. Names such as Carmelo Anthony, José Juan Barea, Cristiano Felicio, Gabriel Deck, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Tyrese Maxey, among others, displayed their potential here before establishing themselves at the highest level of the game. With the tournament set to begin on June 1 at the Domo de la Feria in León, Mexico, we take a look back at some of the players who competed in the FIBA U18 AmeriCup and later made a significant impact both at the club level and with their senior national teams. We will also highlight younger prospects who are beginning to make their way in the professional ranks and are already projected as potential selections in the 2026 NBA Draft, including Darius Acuff Jr., Mikel Brown Jr., Nate Ament and Morez Johnson Jr.
