Slovenia take down France, Spain and Czech Republic preserve unbeaten starts

CELJE (FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2019 Qualifiers) - Slovenia overcame 2017 silver medalists France in a 68-62 home victory to make it three wins from three in the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2019 Qualifiers.

Teja Oblak led the way with 18 points and 10 assists in the win with Shante Evans also adding a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards.

"I am very happy," declared Oblak.

"Many people probably did not believe in us that we could win such a game. We really showed a lot of heart and character.

"I hope to repeat such a game on Wednesday against Romania."

Romania will head into the contest off the back of their first win as they defeated Finland 80-59 on the road to open the second window.

Meanwhile, Spain and Czech Republic came through major tests to their perfect records.

Alba Torrens contributed 18 points, 5 assists and 5 steals to a 72-68 road win against Ukraine for the defending champions, while Alena Hanusova scoed 16 points to help Czech Republic edge past Belgium, 53-48.

Group A
The group is wide-open with three sides on 2-1 as Slovak Republic earned a dramatic 73-72 win in Montenegro behind 19 points from Maria Felixova. 

Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded their second win at home with a dominant 97-67 victory over Iceland with Marica Gajica producing an astonishing display with 31 points and 16 rebounds.

Group B
Turkey ensured they kept their winning start intact with a 64-54 victory at Belarus. Isil Alben top-scored with 19 points, while Tugce Canitez posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Elsewhere, Poland picked up their first victory as they eased to a 68-87 success on the road against Estonia in Tallinn.

Group C
Russia moved to 3-0 with a balanced scoring attack providing the platform for their 71-64 win over Hungary on the road.

Gintare Petronyte put up 24 points on 9-of-10 shooting and added 11 rebounds as Lithuania brushed aside Albania 119-61 to collect their first win with 6 players scoring in double figures.

Group D
Alysha Clark finished with an impressive 27 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists in Israel's 65-63 triumph over Greece with the visitors suffering their first loss.

It was Dannielle Diamant who sealed the win after coming up with huge plays at both ends late on for Israel.

Great Britain joined both sides on 2-1 records as they closed on a 15-0 run for a rallying 64-56 victory against Portugal behind 21 points from Chantelle Handy.

Group F
There was a first win for the Netherlands as they produced a strong finish to see off Bulgaria 83-78 on the road with Chatilla Van Grinsven scoring 24 points to go with 4 blocks.

Group G
Germany opened their win account after Svenja Greunke's 19 points and 17 rebounds led a huge second-half fightback to claim a 54-56 success over Switzerland in Fribourg.

Group H
Giorgia Sottana and Cecilia Zandalasini combined for 41 points to help Italy return to winning ways in style with a convincing 69-47 victory away at Sweden.

Croatia maintain control in the group as they moved to 3-0 with a comfortable 108-47 win over The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
