Killer Questions: Will Italy’s chances go up in smoke? Can Ukraine upset the champs again?

MUNICH (FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2019 Qualifiers) - It looks like being a make-or-break second window for many of the nations involved in the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2019 Qualifiers.

Here are just some of the killer questions we are going to get answered:

Are Italy 40 minutes away from having their hopes go up in smoke?

The pressure is on after their home loss to Croatia and with a tough game to come in Sweden they could be staring down the barrel at a 1-2 record on Saturday night. While not fatal, it could make it an uphill struggle. Or, can Giorgia Sottana and Cecilia Zandalasini come up with the goods? But who can stop Swedish kingpin Amanda Zahui under the basket?

Can Ukraine upset the reigning champions – again?

In their previous qualification campaign, Ukraine did the double over the 2015 champions Serbia. That made people sit up and take notice. With home advantage in Kiev, can they push the current defending champions Spain and deliver more upsets in the Ukrainian capital? Well, anything is a possibility with Alina Iagupova on the roster!

What is going to give when Belarus host Turkey?

They are two traditional powerhouse nations in the recent era, competing in World Championships and Olympic Games – as well as EuroBasket Women latter stages. Both 2-0, something must give in this meeting as both look to claim pole position in the group. There could be some fascinating matchups including Anastasia Verameyenka up against many of her Fenerbahce teammates – both present and former. That means locking horns with the likes of Tilbe Senyurek, Esra Ural and Quanitra Hollingsworth.

Can Iceland keep Marica Gajic under lock and key?

If Iceland do that successfully, then they could be celebrating a rare win when they go up against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Victory could derail the qualification hopes of their opponents - although Gajic is in scorching form at Mersin. Will Iceland deliver the biggest surprise of the day and be able to do what they did in the previous qualifying for FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017 when they posted a memorable win against Hungary?

Is this the time for Hungary to make a true statement?

Hungary have a great chance to go 3-0 when they host Russia, who dodged a bullet last time out to Lithuania. Even if Olaf Lange has a real depth of talent on the roster of his visiting side, Hungary might just feel it is their time to shine and take control of the group. But will Cyesha Goree be able to match Maria Vadeeva? That will be crunch.

Will Great Britain be able to win without Leedham-Warner?

The battle between Great Britain, Greece and Israel is set to be fierce and this has already been shown after November's window. However, without the injured EuroLeague Women star Jo Leedham-Warner, will the Brits have enough to avoid a setback in Portugal? Even if they do have the added boost of Los Angeles Sparks signing Karlie Samuelson as their newly naturalized player.
