Hosts end unbeaten Iceland run, Finland enjoy Lantinen triple-double

SARAJEVO (FIBA U18 Women's European Championship 2016 Division B) - Bosnia and Herzegovina handed Iceland their first defeat of the Championship. Greece and Belarus also stayed perfect on Day 4.

The host nation enjoyed a good shooting day, hitting 47% of their attempts from the field, compared to just 33% of their rivals. Bosnia and Herzegovina started to build their lead with a 25-16 first quarter, and ran away in the third with a 27-20 partial score, good enough to secure a 88-72 win.

Melisa Brcaninovic had 24 points and 10 rebounds for the 3-0 Bosnia and Herzegovina team, which featured two more 20-point performances. Milina Miselic finished with 20 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and four steals, Nikolina Zubac came up with 20 points and five rebounds. For Iceland, Emelia Osk Gunnarsdottir collected 21 points and 10 boards.

Bosnia and Herzegovina lead the way in Group A, closely followed by Finland at 2-1. A great Finnish start to the game paved the way for a 65-53 win over Portugal, who dropped to 1-3 and fell out of contention for a Quarter-Final spot.

Lotta-Maj Lahtinen stole the show with a triple-double to her name. Her 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals were all game-highs, and she needed a big game like this one, after scoring a combined eight points in the first two games in Sarajevo. Mariana Silva had 15 points and nine rebounds for Portugal.

Group B saw Belarus cruise to another triumph, their third in as many outings. All 11 players who stepped on the court scored at least five points for Belarus in a 94-26 victory over Albania. Palina Zelinskaya and Maryia Kryzhanouskaya had 12 points each, three more players finished with 10.

Poland stayed in the hunt for a Quarter-Final ticket with a 72-46 win over Denmark. This was a three-point game at the half, but Poland switched gears after the break, creating a 23-point advantage over the second 20 minutes.

Ewa Bacik had a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double. Natalia Gwizdala also scored 12 points, Weronika Nowakowska added 11 more, and Izabela Zdrodowska ended with 10 points. Lena Elisabeth Svanholm had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Denmark, who will now be playing in the elimination rounds.

In Group C, Greece completed a group sweep, finishing the first part of the competition on a 4-0 record. Elena Tsineke needed 23 minutes to score 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field, and Zafeirenia Karlafti added 14 points to book a 75-58 victory over winless England.

Estonia dismantled The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia 75-34 on a 26-point performance by Sandra Tael, and will now play the all-important game against Ireland on Wednesday. Both teams are tied for second place in group with a 2-1 record. The winner goes through to the Quarter-Finals, where they will play against the still undefeated Sweden, the Group D winners.
