Iceland fend off Finland, claim Quarter-Final berth, hosts stay perfect

SARAJEVO (FIBA U18 Women's European Championship 2016 Division B) - Iceland, Ireland and Germany won the direct battles for Quarter-Final spots in their respective groups, as teams now take a day off before the final phase.

Iceland held off Finland 81-73 to finish second in Group A. Their lead had been as big as 30 during the game, and Iceland had no trouble guiding it home, entering the fourth quarter with a 66-44 lead. Finland's cause was not helped by a 28% shooting day.

Sylvia Run Halfdanardottir ran away with game honours in this one, contributing 28 points, 20 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. She had her struggles from the field, but the ability to get to the free-throw line allowed her to connect on 15-of-18 attempts from the line. Emelia Osk Gunnarsdottir had 15 points, while Elin Soley Hrafnkelsdottir channeled her inner Halfdanardottir with 13 points and 15 rebounds.

Bosnia and Herzegovina escape Group A with a perfect record and first place. Their final group win was 88-72 against Romania, as Sara Heljic needed just 21 minutes to score 19 points. Melisa Brcaninovic continued her torment of the opposition. Yet another double-double for the 17-year-old, her fourth in as many games, as she collected 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Poland have the task of stopping the hosts in the Quarter-Finals. Poland enter the elimination round on a high, after setting a new tournament-high in scoring, defeating Albania 120-31, Alicja Falkowska led all scorers with 24 points and 11 rebounds in 27 minutes of action.

Ireland defeated Estonia 65-46 in a direct duel for second spot in Group C. Sweden secured a 3-0 record at the top of Group D with a 90-27 win over Scotland.

Germany finished second in Group D, thanks a 79-54 win over Bulgaria. Leonie Schutter proved she is indeed a shooter, scoring five triples to take her to a game-high 23 points in just 22 minutes of action.
