Iceland reach triple digits, Finland hit the biggest shot on Day 1

ORADEA (2016 FIBA U16 Women's European Championship Division B) - A new Championship kicked off in Romania, with 276 players and 23 teams fighting for three Division A tickets.

In Group A, Slovenia held Austria to 21% shooting from the field in a 67-42 win to start their campaign on a high. All 12 Slovenian players played at least nine minutes, Marusa Podgrajsek finished with a game-high 14 points. Estonia defeated Cyprus 53-44, and the Netherlands enjoyed Lotte Sant's 20 points on a 9-of-13 shooting day in a 71-54 win over Israel.

In Group B, Anne Simon played a brilliant game, finishing with 23 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 assists in a 60-48 Luxembourg win over Denmark. Ioanna Chatzileonti had 12 points and 13 rebounds in Greece's 54-41 triumph against Ukraine, and Iceland hit the century mark against Albania. Birna Benonysdottir played the most impressive game of the opening day, scoring 27 points in just 16 minutes on the court in a 105-38 win.

In Group C, Venla Viitanen hit the biggest shot on Day 1. Her three-pointer with 11 seconds left in the fourth quarter gave Finland a 62-58 victory against Ireland. Viitanen finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated Scotland 57-47 on the back of a couple of double-doubles. Dragana Domuzin had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Sara Heljic collected 13 points and 12 rebounds. England had no trouble in an 83-45 win over Bulgaria as Hannah Jump hit five triples and 17 points in 24 minutes of play.

In Group D, Poland stifled Norway en route to a 95-21 win. All 12 Polish players played at least seven minutes, Aleksandra Ziemborska led them with 17 points in as many minutes. The host nation also started their tournament with a comfortable win. Romania held off Belgium 56-43, Maria Ferariu was too fast for the defence and gathered 13 points and 11 rebounds.
