Quarter-Finals: Israel take out Greece, hosts hand Finland first loss

ORADEA (2016 FIBA U16 Women's European Championship Division B) - Israel had to dig deep, but found success with a Quarter-Final win over Greece and will now face Romania, whilst the Netherlands and Poland square off in the second Semi-Final.

Greece led 45-38 with 1:35 remaining in the fourth quarter, but could not break Israeli resistance. Offir Kesten Raz made a triple to make it a four-point game, and Shira Atir hit two straight three-pointers to give Israel a 47-45 edge heading into the final 30 seconds of regulation.

Ismini Prapa saved the Greek team with a two-pointer to take the Quarter-Final into overtime, but Israel clearly had the momentum. A 7-0 run to start the added time was enough to give them a 56-51 win and a ticket to the final four.

Kesten Raz and Danielle Karsh scored 12 points each, and Kesten Raz also had a game-high 6 steals. Ioanna Krimili collected 19 points and 9 rebounds, but Greece will not win promotion to Divison A.

Israel will face Romania next. The hosts found perfect timing to hand Finland their first loss, and they have done so in dramatic fashion. Lotta Vehka-Aho had a last-second three point attempt to win the game, but could not find the target, as Romania held on for a 55-53 win.

Sarah Dumitrescu was the game hero with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks. Irina Parau struggled with her shot, but helped Romania with 21 rebounds on the day. Elina Arike's 12 points and 8 rebounds went to waste for Finland.

The other Semi-Final pairing are the Netherlands and Poland. Poland had a tougher task, Ireland would not go away until the final buzzer. Poland outscored them 60-53, but it was a two-point game with four minutes left to play. Martyna Leszczynska scored a game-high 15 points for Poland.

The Netherlands recorded the only comfortable win of the Quarter-Finals. In the Benelux derby, they defeated Luxembourg 89-45 on a 24-point performance by Robyn Bouwer. She needed just 24 minutes of play to hit 4-of-7 triples and get the orange team a step closer to promotion.
