Poland overturn a 10-point deficit, Romania send Israel to Third Place game

ORADEA (2016 FIBA U16 Women's European Championship Division B) - Poland and Romania are through to Division A, while Israel and the Netherlands have to fight for the last promotion spot on Sunday.

Poland turned a 10-point deficit into a 66-59 win over the Netherlands in the Semi-Finals. The fourth quarter was close to perfection for the white-and-reds, holding their opponents to just five points in the last five minutes, while scoring 16 at the other end of the floor during that stretch.

Aleksandra Ziemborska picked the perfect timing for her best shooting performance of the Championship. She connected on 7-of-11 shots from the field to finish with a game-high 15 points for Poland. Anna Makurat had 13 points and 8 rebounds, Aleksandra Wojtala helped out with 10 points and 5 assists.

Robyn Bouwer hit four triples on the way to recording 14 points for the Dutch team, who have to bounce back as soon as possible. They can still end up with a bronze in their hands and a ticket to Division A with a win over Israel in the Third-Place Game.

The Israelis also blew a big lead in their Semi-Final against Romania. They had a nine-point advantage, and also entered the final stanza just three points behind. But Romania switched gears when it mattered most and ran away to a 52-43 lead with five minutes left, which proved to be enough for a 63-52 win and a place in the final.

Maria Ferariu led the hosts with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists. Nicolett Orban and Alexandra Ghita combined for 22 points, and Irina Parau finished with a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double for Romania. Shira Atir had 15 points for Israel.

On Sunday, the Netherlands and Israel take the court in the Third-Place game at 16:15 local time, followed by the big finale between Poland and Romania at 18:30. Poland have never won this competition, whilst Romania's best efforts have produced two bronzes, the most recent coming in 2008.
