Makurat comes up big for Poland, six more teams on 2-0

ORADEA (2016 FIBA U16 Women's European Championship Division B) - Seven teams kept their records clean at the Championship, but Poland are the only ones who are not sharing top spot in their respective group.

In Group D, Poland outlasted Romania 57-54 to grab their second win of the tournament. Anna Makurat was the game hero, hitting the go-ahead three-pointer with 90 seconds remaining, and finishing the job with a couple of free throws to set the final score. Maria Ferariu's last second triple did not go in.

Makurat scored a game-high 18 points, hitting 3-of-5 from long range. Olga Trzeciak was also in double figures with 15 points for Poland, who let slip an 11-point lead. Romania have fallen to 1-1 and are now tied with Belgium for 2nd place in Group D.

Belgium had no trouble against the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, winning the game 63-30. Becky Massey amassed 15 points and 12 rebounds, also robbing her opponents of possession on three occasions.

In Group C, Finland and England are the two unbeaten teams, both on 2-0 records. England held off Bosnia and Herzegovina 66-56 as Holly Winterburn burned the opposition with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 6 steals. Finland used all 12 players for at least nine minutes in a 74-20 win over Bulgaria. Sara Bejedi had 15 points and 7 assists in 20 minutes of play. Ireland got on the board with a 58-49 win over Scotland, with Dayna Finn claiming a 16-point, 15-rebound double-double.

Group B also features a couple of teams with 2-0 records. Luxembourg got there with a comfortable 95-26 win over Albania, and Greece held Iceland to just two points in the final 10 minutes for a 49-28 victory. Iceland have fallen to 1-1, and share third place with Ukraine, who defeated Denmark 48-32.

Much like Groups B and C, Group A has two teams running away from competition. The Netherlands and Estonia are both still undefeated, with Estonia having to work hard to preserve an 83-75 win against Austria, while the Netherlands went on cruise control against Cyprus, enjoying an 87-49 victory. Meike Koelman had 27 points and five steals in just 22 minutes of action. Israel defeated Slovenia 69-40, both of those teams are at 1-1.
