Today's FIBA Asia Challenge Games: Tuesday 13 September

TEHRAN (FIBA Asia Challenge 2016) - Here are the six games to look forward to on Day 5 of the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016 in Tehran, Iran.

Philippines v Kazakhstan

In this battle of winless teams, will the upstart Filipinos finally have a breakthrough, or will the veteran-laden Kazakhs frustrate them anew? Gilas Pilipinas have been competitive in all their games, but they’ve always come up short, while Kazakhstan are hoping their more experienced crew can carry them to their maiden triumph.

India v China

Two years ago, India notched the biggest win in their basketball history by upending China in Wuhan. Now the Chinese are out for payback and out to preserve their immaculate record. Can lightning strike twice for India, or will China continue to roll?

Thailand v Qatar

The Thais are coming off the short end of the widest losing margin so far in this tournament, and things aren’t bound to get easier when they face Qatar. Al Annabi have been unlucky in their first three matches, but they are hoping to finally record win #1 at Thailand’s expense.

Chinese Taipei v Jordan

Taipei have drawn the best out of Quincy Davis so far, but a bigger Jordan side is out to stifle their momentum. Liu Cheng is coming off his finest performance yet, but going up against Dar Tucker should prove to be an acid test of immense proportions. Can Jordan inflict the first blemish on Taipei’s unbeaten slate, or will coach Yan Jia-Hwa’s get their fourth straight W?

Japan v Iran

Iran may just have their first big test here against the Japanese, who were fortunate to escape with a win over a talented Iraqi side yesterday. Hamed Haddadi should be fresh after playing only 14 minutes in their win over Thailand, and Japan will be hard-pressed to contain him with a relatively undersized frontline.

Korea v Iraq

Korea are favored to be victorious here and keep their record unblemished, but they shouldn’t easily overlook Iraq, which very nearly dropped the upset axe on Japan last night. Coach Hur Jae’s wards have been showing very sharp shooting form and relentless defensive pressure of late, though, so it’s unlikely they will drop their guard against the bigger Iraqis.
