Friday's Top 5 Players at the 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge

TEHRAN (FIBA Asia Challenge 2016) - Korea, China, India and hosts Iran came out as victors on the first day of competition in the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016 in Tehran, Iran. It was an exciting opening day that featured several standout performances

FIBA.com takes a closer look at the Top 5 performers from Friday’s games in Tehran.

Kim SunHyung
SunHyung has a reputation as one of the quickest and streakiest guards in Korea, and he lived up to that billing in their win over Japan. SunHyung was all over the hardwood — scoring, handing out assists, and getting steals. He ended up with 22 points, 8 assists, 5 steals and 3 rebounds for the Koreans.

Makoto Hiejima
Yes, Japan lost to Korea, but Hiejima was a silver lining for the Akatsuki Five. He fought hard to score 29 points on 12/22 field goal shooting, including 4 triples. Hiejima surprised a lot of people last year when he became one of Japan’s main scoring weapons, but it really looks like he has settled into that role for this year.

Dar Tucker
If we’ll go by the numbers, Dar Tucker had a stellar debut with 29 points, 8 boards and 2 steals. Yes, Jordan failed to win the game, but Tucker’s supreme effort shouldn’t go unnoticed. For sure, his role will continue to evolve as Jordan try to make it to the top eight.

Kim JongKyu
This is the second Kim to make this list, and that’s a testament to the depth of Korea’s roster. Whereas SunHyung ran rings around his defenders, JongKyu ruled the paint with 13 points and 10 rebounds. JongKyu will be expected to continue his strong play as Korea hope to go deep in this competition.

Amjyot Singh
India had a shaky start against a hard-fighting Philippine crew, but Amjyot Singh increased his aggressiveness all throughout the match. The 2.03m wunderkind eventually recorded eye-popping totals of 24 points, 18 rebounds and 2 assists. He was hardly unstoppable in the paint against much smaller defenders.
