ZARAGOZA (Spain) - Fenerbahce Opet standout Gabby Williams has retained her EuroLeague Women Defensive Player of the Year crown after posting another excellent season in the competition.
The French national team star took the honor for the third time in her career, having initially won it in 2021 while representing Sopron Basket, who she subsequently guided to a historic first title success.
Having made it back-to-back awards after also landing last year’s edition, she becomes the second Fenerbahce player to win the category, following Elizabeth Williams in 2022.
Williams has been an influential part of taking Fenerbahce to this year's title game.
She has posted a performance efficiency valuation of 15.1, averaging 13.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game, while also showcasing her defensive prowess with a league-leading 3.0 steals per outing.
The 29-year old landed the prestigious honor via a combination of the votes of EuroLeague Women coaches, players, selected media and the fans.
The award was presented by Mr. Jorge Azcon, President of Aragon.
Williams fended off competition from fellow Finalists Helena Pueyo of Casademont Zaragoza and Awak Kuier of Galatasaray Cagdas Faktoring.
