VILLENEUVE D'ASCQ (France) - The 14th edition of SuperCup Women will see last year's EuroCup Women winners Villeneuve d'Ascq trying to take down reigning EuroLeague Women champions ZVVZ USK Praha.
While the visitors to Le Palacium will be big favorites, Villeneuve will have home support behind them as they search for history and a first title in the competition.
Meanwhile Praha will try and replicate their 2015 success and repeat how they claimed their EuroLeague Women crown a decade after their maiden trophy.
The live broadcast of the game will be available to watch live and for free on the EuroLeague Women YouTube channel, with tip-off scheduled for 20:30 CET on Wednesday, October 1.
ZVVZ USK Praha
There have been some major changes for Praha and not least, the end of an era as legendary playcaller Natalia Hejkova handed over the coaching reins in style to Martin Basta.
In terms of playing personnel, Praha have also waved goodbye to the likes of the highly influential Teja Oblak, Maria Conde, Veronika Vorackova and Ezi Magbegor, with Tereza Vyoralova also announcing her retirement.
However the good news is that the replacements and new faces are of a high level in Pauline Astier, Janelle Salaun, Emma Cechova, Bridget Carleton and Makayla Timpson. There is also still some continuity including the newly announced captain Valeriane Ayayi, Final Six MVP Brionna Jones and Maite Cazorla.
Villeneuve d'Ascq LM
There were also large scale changes for Villeneuve in the wake of their EuroCup Women silverware success. They waved goodbye to the likes of MVP Carla Leite, veteran Shavonte Zellous, Aminata Gueye, Marie-Paule Foppossi and Kadiatou Sissoko.
In their place, the club has turned to Germany national team playmaker Alexis Peterson to direct traffic in the backcourt. Alongside her will be new arrivals Ameryst Alston and the returning Marie Eve Paget.
The frontcourt has been boosted by Alexia Chery who is back from maternity leave, along with new additions Marie-Michelle Milapie and Emmanuelle Tahane.
Key Matchup
As everyone saw at last year's Final Six, it is often Ayayi that makes ZVVZ USK Praha tick and reach the higher gear in big games. The French forward arguably sparked their title success in Zaragoza last season, with her ability to make scores from the perimeter or inside making her a tough baller to slow down.
Whoever Villeneuve hand that defensive task to will be essential in this contest and it could fall to a couple of different players. One option is possibly Terezia Palenikova, with the Slovakian winger having the experience and skills to compete against her rival.
