    ZVVZ USK Praha outlasted Villeneuve d'Ascq LM as MVP Pauline Astier lit it up

    The reigning EuroLeague Women champions are making it a calendar year to remember as Pauline Astier shows out.

    VILLENEUVE D'ASCQ (France) - ZVVZ USK Praha proved too strong for Villeneuve d'Ascq LM as the Czech giants landed their second SuperCup Women trophy exactly a decade after securing their first.

    Praha took down their hosts 86-77 at Le Palacium as new head coach Martin Basta started off his reign with a memorable victory in the prestigious season curtain-raiser.

    Pauline Astier won MVP honors after a super double-double ZVVZ USK Praha

    It was playmaker Pauline Astier who stole the show as the she returned to her native France to take MVP honors with a majestic double-double of 17 points and an amazing 15 assists - as well as grabbing a super 7 steals.

    Praha founded their success on their ability to turn up the dial defensively and that was the fuel for a killer 14-2 run during the third quarter which gave them the cushion they needed as their opponents launched a late comeback. As well as Astier shining, there were also some nice cameos from Valeriane Ayayi who added 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, while Petra Malikova harvested 14 points. Ameryst Alston top-scored in defeat for Villeneuve with 16 points. ZVVZ USK Praha become the fourth club in history to be crowned SuperCup Women champions more than once, joining former winners Fenerbahce Opet (2023, 2024), UMMC Ekaterinburg (2013, 2016, 2018, 2019) and Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje (2009, 2010) in completing the feat.

    Four other clubs have all won SuperCup Women once and they are Perfumerias Avenida (2011), Dynamo Kursk (2017), Valencia (2021) and Tango Bourges Basket (2022). ###
