MIAMI (United States) – The official draw for the FIBA U18 AmeriCup was held on Monday in Miami, Florida. Following the draw, the groups for the tournament that will be played at the Domo de la Feria in León, Mexico, from June 1-7, were determined as follows:
Before the draw, the teams were placed into pairs based on their position in the FIBA Youth Ranking, presented by Nike. They were then drawn at random, along with a position number that determines the order of the games.
New competition system
Beginning in 2026, a new youth competition system in the Americas has come into effect, following approval by the FIBA Americas Board during its Mid-Term Congress held in October 2025. The format is as follows:
Each team will play one game against every opponent in their group
The first-place teams from each group will advance directly to the Semi-finals
The last-place teams from each group will play for fifth to eighth place
The second-place teams will face the third-place teams from the opposite group (2B vs. 3A and 2A vs. 3B). The winners will advance to the Semi-finals to face the group leaders, while the losers will join the last-place teams for positions five through eight
The top four teams in the FIBA U18 AmeriCup will qualify for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2027.
