Players to watch
This is the continent’s premier youth tournament and one of the most important stages for identifying future basketball stars in the Americas. It will once again feature elite young talent with vast upside. Here are some of the top players to watch:
Bruce Branch III – United States
Date of birth: October 24, 2008 Position: Small Forward Height: 201 cm / 6'7" A five-star prospect who is already projected as a potential No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NBA Draft. Analysts describe him as an elite shooter with strong defensive upside, although they note he still needs to add muscle. One of the most striking aspects of his physical profile is his 2.10m (6'11") wingspan, measured at the 2024 Adidas All-American Camp. In 2026, he announced his commitment to BYU in the NCAA. He was also selected to participate in the 2026 McDonald’s All-American Game and competed for USA at the Nike Hoop Summit.
Paul Osaruyi – Canada
Date of birth: February 26, 2008 Position: Power Forward Height: 203 cm / 6'8" He is currently regarded as one of the most promising frontcourt prospects in North America in the class of 2027. With a powerful frame and outstanding athleticism, some experts view him as the prototype of the modern big man: capable of protecting the rim, running the floor, switching defensively and finishing above the rim. He turned heads at the 2023 FIBA U16 Americas Championship, averaging 14.8 points and 8.3 rebounds while playing up an age category. The following year, he competed at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup.
Felipe Quiñones – Puerto Rico
Date of birth: January 19, 2008 Position: Shooting Guard Height: 198 cm / 6'6" This will be his sixth FIBA youth tournament and second at the U18 level. He is widely considered the best Puerto Rican player in his generation and one of the top prospects in the region. He combines excellent size with elite scoring ability, court vision and a competitive mindset. Just one week ago, while playing for Panathinaikos at the EuroLeague NextGen Tournament, he averaged 27.0 points per game. In 2026, he was also selected to participate in the Basketball Without Borders Global Camp.
Enmanuel Valera – Dominican Republic
Date of birth: November 24, 2008 Position: Small Forward Height: 201 cm / 6'7" He has been steadily emerging at the high school level in the United States. Thanks to his combination of size, perimeter shooting and athleticism, he currently holds several NCAA Division I offers. Analysts praise his offensive fluidity for a player of his size and age— his comfort handling the ball, and the advanced skill set he displays. This will be his first opportunity representing his country in a FIBA competition.
Isaiah Santos – Brazil
Date of birth: November 10, 2008 Position: Small Forward Height: 190 cm / 6'3" He also holds American citizenship and completed much of his basketball development in the United States. He stands out because of his physical tools, energy, rebounding and defensive versatility. At last year’s South American U17 Championship, he averaged 15.0 points and 9.2 rebounds in just 21 minutes per game. He was selected to participate in the 2026 Basketball Without Borders Global Camp.
Joaquín Caumo – Argentina
Date of birth: October 16, 2008 Position: Point Guard Height: 178 cm / 5'10" He aggressively attacks the basket and also possesses solid perimeter scoring ability. He recently emerged as one of the standout players at the 2025 FIBA South American U17 Championship, where he averaged 17.8 points (46.9 percent from three-point range), 2.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists, finishing as Argentina’s leading scorer.
Kevin Gutiérrez – Venezuela
Date of birth: June 6, 2009 Position: Power Forward Height: 196 cm / 6'5" He is one of the leaders of this Venezuelan generation that has helped restore the country’s youth competitiveness. He earned All-Star Five honors at both the 2024 South American U15 Championship and the 2025 South American U17 Championship. His game is defined by constant activity and rebounding ability. Although he started as an interior player, he has begun transitioning to the perimeter. His development at Italy’s Stella Azzurra academy has been instrumental in that evolution, which could make him a more versatile player in the future.
Yair Olano – Mexico
Date of birth: January 9, 2009 Position: Shooting Guard Height: 192 cm / 6'4" Since emerging at the 2024 Centrobasket U15 Championship, he has shown himself to be a complete player. He scores and rebounds above average for his position, while also distributing the ball effectively and generating steals. He still needs to improve his shooting efficiency, but he has plenty of room for growth in that area. His size and overall impact across different aspects of the game are what make him such an intriguing prospect.
