    First Sports Performance Specialist Level 2 course implemented in Iraq

    BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office - Asia recently organized the first ever Sports Performance Specialist (SPS) Level 2 workshop in Iraq from 15-17 June 2023.

    BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office - Asia recently organized the first ever Sports Performance Specialist (SPS) Level 2 workshop in Iraq from 15-17 June 2023.

    The workshop is an advancement of the series of workshops at Level 1 which has been organized throughout Asia since late 2022. These workshops have been held in Lebanon, PalestineQatarMaldivesSyriaMongoliaIraq, Singapore, KuwaitTurkmenistanIranSaudi ArabiaThailandMalaysia, Kazakhstan, and Brunei.

    The goal of the workshops was to provide basketball coaches, athletes, and interested parties with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance their athletic abilities and prevent injuries. The SPS program is part of FIBA's larger initiative to bolster the physical training capabilities of local coaches and promote strength and conditioning in basketball.

    The Level 2 workshop in Iraq, the first ever at this level, saw 17 participants.

    Level 2 is an intensive three-day course designed to provide in-depth knowledge and practical skills in the field of musculoskeletal assessments and performance training. This course offers comprehensive explanations of various assessments used in evaluating the musculoskeletal system and provides insights into the different phases of strength and conditioning periodization. Participants also gain expertise in programming methods for optimizing athletic performance.

    The course covers a wide range of subtopics, such as ankle and foot strength and power, sports injuries, plyometric progressions, and regressions, training zones and overtraining and facility planning. Through numerous practical demonstrations and assessments, attendees acquire hands-on experience and develop a thorough understanding of the subject matter.

    Participants were actively engaged making the workshop a resounding success.

    The workshop is an integral component of a larger initiative aimed at building a solid groundwork for physical training through education, while also elevating the level of competence among basketball strength and conditioning coaches.

    The achievements of the SPS programs serve as evidence of the Regional Office's unwavering commitment to empowering coaches in the local community and advancing the field of strength and conditioning in basketball.
