    Sports Performance Specialist program hosted in Malaysia

    BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office - Asia recently organized a Sports Performance Specialist (SPS) workshop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 6-7 March 2023.

    BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The FIBA Regional Office - Asia recently organized a Sports Performance Specialist (SPS) workshop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 6-7 March 2023.

    The workshop aimed to equip coaches, athletes, and stakeholders with knowledge and skills to improve athletic capabilities and prevent injuries in basketball. The SPS program is part of FIBA’s initiative to strengthen the physical training skills of local coaches and promote strength and conditioning in basketball.

    The workshop was a resounding success, with participants actively engaging in both theoretical and practical sessions. 

    The SPS program's success in Kuala Lumpur is a testament to the Regional Office's dedication to empowering local coaches and promoting strength and conditioning in basketball. This workshop is part of a broader initiative to lay the foundation of physical training through education to elevate the standard of strength and conditioning coaches in basketball.

    Neo Hseng Zyung, an attendee, reflected on the knowledge and friendships gained during his educational journey and the importance of focusing on quality over quantity in training. Ong Zhan Hao expressed his eagerness to continue his education and further his knowledge by attending the Level 2 course in the near future. Hue Jia Weii also expressed her deep appreciation for the program and eagerness to continue learning by attending the Level 2 course.

    Thoh Chia Ling of the Johore Basketball Association, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and the new ideas shared during the program.

    "In this program, we have learned and tested new skills, we have gained an in-depth understanding of the drills as well as the skills and knowledge of the different drills, gaining more ideas on how to test the players and how to analyze the players, how to collect the players' data and get to know their updated performance. This is truly a special project. I am very fortunate to be in this program,” she said.

    Dr Faiz Baharudin, Chairman, MABA Medical Management; Team Doctor, Malaysia National Basketball Team added, “This was such a great course and an eye opener for us in the Malaysia Basketball fraternity."

    "I personally feel that it is about time for us to venture more into the medical and sports science aspect of the game, not only to prevent injuries but most importantly, to boost the performance of our players at the highest level especially when we compete with other countries that were already advanced in this area."

    "I really hope that more similar courses will be organized in the future and I look forward to working together with the organizing team in whatever capacity that I could contribute.”

    The success of the SPS programs is a testament to the Regional Office’s dedication to empowering local coaches and promoting strength and conditioning in basketball. With previous successful programs held in Lebanon, PalestineQatarMaldivesSyriaMongoliaIraq, Singapore, KuwaitTurkmenistanIranSaudi Arabia, and Thailand, the Regional Office continues to lay the foundation of physical training through education to elevate the standard of strength and conditioning coaches in basketball.
