    HERAKLION (Greece) - The final eight teams have been decided after the FIBA U20 EuroBasket Round of 16 was played out on Wednesday.

    For the losing sides, they will fight for their status in next year's competition in the Classification 9-16 Games.

    Germany needed a late rally and a strong performance from Martin Kalu to head to overtime against Slovenia, but suffered a heartbreaking 86-85 loss at the buzzer. The guard produced a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds as well as recording one steal and a block for an efficiency rating of 25.

    Israel breezed into the Quarter-Finals with a resounding 119-68 win over Romania in their Round of 16 encounter, with Roe Avneri amongst five players in double figures for the victors, with 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting, along with 11 rebounds for a rating of 25.

    Osawaru Osasuyi stood out as Italy led from start to finish, en route to a 101-58 victory over Iceland. Osasuyi enjoyed a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds, eight of those coming on the offensive glass, along with 3 steals for a rating of 24.

    Finland came up short, 85-78, in an enticing battle against hosts Greece, who led for the majority but always had the Finnish side over their shoulder. Part of that was the all-around effort of Elmeri Abbey, who had 11 points coming from the foul line and ended with 22. He also had 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals.

    Nedas Raupelis got it done on both ends of the floor as he was instrumental in Lithuania’s 84-73 Round of 16 win over a gutsy Poland side. Raupelis shot 83 percent from the floor for 12 points. He also pulled down 8 rebounds and swatted away 3 field goal attempts, showcasing his defensive prowess.
