BRNO (Czechia) - Canada started hot from the three-point line and never relented as they set an all-time FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup record by making a phenomenal 20 scores from downtown against Nigeria.
Eventually running out 113-42 winners, it was Agot Makeer who led the way as she dropped 5 of 7 from long-range en-route to a sparkling 18 points.
Eight different Canadian players made triples to rack up the historical high, with Mila Holloway dishing out 9 assists in the process. That helped Canada to accumulate the joint second highest number of assists in history for a single game with 36.
The sharp-shooting of Canada also came just 24 hours after Israel attained their third best display in history from the arc when they dropped 17 shots in their thrilling 86-82 loss against Hungary.
Meanwhile Canada also took pride in becoming the first ever nation at a FIBA U19 event (women or men) to hit the 20 triples landmark.
At the highly successful FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2025 in Lausanne recently, eventual champions USA equalled the previous all-time high of 19 triples.
Finally, as Canada were setting the record, Australia were also threatening to set an all-time high against Brazil in a game which was being played simultaneously. The Gems ended up with 16 triples (tied for 4th all-time) in an 87-59 win.
