Crunching numbers: Some top stats from the Group Phase

    Short Read

Here are some key numbers as we head into Final 6

JOHOR BAHRU (Malaysia) - The BCL Asia-East 2026 Final 6 is less than a week away and there's no better time to check which players are leading some of the key statistical departments entering the culminating meet.

The recently concluded Group Phase not only offered high-quality action, but became a showcase as well for the players to prove themselves worthy and capable of performing under the league's bright lights.

New Taipei star Jalen Harris, for instance, finished the preliminaries as its top scorer with 27.3 points. He netted as much in only three games, and shot efficiently as well with a 54.0-percent accuracy from the floor.

He also shot 40-percent from deep and made 85.7-percent of his foul shots, nearly achieving a rare 50-40-90 split. And we can only wonder how his numbers would've been had he played the rest of the round.

It's quite unfortunate, too, that it may take some time for fans to see the Jordan men's team standout grace the BCL Asia-East court again as the Kings missed the Final 6 after getting ousted by the Chinggis Broncos.

But don't expect any shortage of stars in the May 19-24 showpiece, with three of the 2026 competitions' Top Five scorers set to see action in the showpiece to be played at the Arena Larkin Indoor Stadium in Johor.

Troy Gillenwater is heading into the Final Phase as the league's second-leading scorer with 25.5 points, including two 30-point showings as he played a key role in Dewa United Banten ruling Group A with a 4-2 record.

The sweet-shooting big, who's also been shooting 51.4-percent from the field, actually fell just five points short of surpassing the BCL Asia-East scoring record when he dropped 35 in a win over Hi-Tech last April 15.

That output of his, by the way, is the highest by any player this season, and that's big thanks also to the way he's been shooting from deep--44.1-percent, to be exact, making him one of this season's best shooters.

Johor's high-flying wing Scottie Lewis ranks third in scoring with 23.8 points per game as he was indeed one of the major reasons behind what's been a solid run thus far for one of the BCL Asia-East's newcomers.

In fact, he was integral in dealing Dewa United their first loss of the tourney after a 3-0 start, dropping 30 big points to banner the upset - witnessed by the Southern Tigers' faithful in their very own lair.

Lewis has also been shooting nicely with a 54.2-percent clip and that's big thanks to his conscious effort of taking higher-percentage shots, particularly dunks which have been nothing short of highlight-worthy.

Rounding out the Top Five are NTK guard Jayden Gardner with 22.7 points and Hi-Tech gunner Accheaus Fields, who's norming 20.7 points as he's been key in helping the Thai side advance to the Final Phase.

Composing the rebounding leaders, on the other hand, are some of the league's elite big men.

Dewa United's very own Joshua Ibarra has been this year's top board-getter with 14.2 points, which is without a doubt impressive given the fact that no player hauled down more than 11.4 at least in last year's edition.

The Mexican bruiser has also been a double-double machine with five under his belt, none bigger than a rare 20-20 showing when he tallied 27 points and 21 rebounds albeit in a losing effort versus Johor last April 30.

Will Artino of Taoyuan Pauian has been solid as well with 13.0 rebounds per game, as his all-around play has enabled last year's runner-up to sweep their way into the Final 6 with a clean 6-0 record.

He was actually the reason why they managed to own Group B unscathed, coming through with the go-ahead hook shot over counterpart Jordy Tshimanga as the Pilots came back from 16 down to beat the Broncos.

The lefty Tshimanga, though, remains one of the tournament's more reliable players given his experience from 2025, with the returning center the third-best rebounder of the 2026 meet thus far with 12.7 per night.

Rodrigue Andela of South China Athletic Association and another veteran in Jordan Tolbert, formerly of the Broncos who's now with New Taipei, close out the Top 5 rebounding list with 11.7 and 9.0, respectively.

Oh and before we forget, Tshimanga also leads the league in blocks with 2.2 per game, with Ibarra joining him in the Top Three with 1.7. Lewis is in the Top Five as well, where he's ranked fourth with 1.5 swats to his name.

Leading the BCL Asia-East 2026 in assists, meanwhile, is DJ Cooper - and the manner of which the playmaker extraordinaire has been doing it could be extremely difficult to duplicate in the seasons to come.

The Dewa United PG is averaging 14.2 assists per game. Yes, double digits in dimes, And to put matters into perspective, no player normed more than 6.0 assists during last year's contest.

Cooper made it known how much of a pass-first player he is right off the bat, chalking up 19 assists to help anchor the Indonesian outfit's successful debut at the expense of Hi-Tech at home last March 27.

That made him the league's new assists king as it is the most by a player in a BCL Asia qualifiers game. It was also just the second time that someone registered double digits in the said statistical department in one outing.

But as if it wasn't enough, the 35-year-old would tally double-digit feeds in their next five games. He even flirted with a triple-double in a win against Hi-Tech to finish their Group Phase run with a 10-8-14 stat line.

With Dewa United playing at least two games in the upcoming Final 6, it sure is interesting to see if Cooper would be able to continue this unprecedented run of his, and the crew is surely hoping that it translates to Ws.

Harris ranks a distant second in assists with 7.0 to his tally, with young star Barsbold Baatar Erdene of the Broncos at no. 3 with 6.3, including 11 in their aforementioned ouster of New Taipei just last Saturday at home.

His new teammate in Stedmon Lemon, formerly of Tabiat Basketball in the FIBA WASL-West Asia League and the BCL Asia 2025, quickly rose and finished the Group Phase at fourth in assists with 6.0 in three games.

Completing the Top Five is versatile big man Dominic Gilbert of South China with 5.5 in four games, leaving some thinking that he could have averaged more had he been able to play all six of their Group Phase outings.
