MANILA (Philippines) - Dennis Schroder capped his historical run at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 by taking home the TISSOT Most Valuable Player award after guiding Germany to their first ever title.
MANILA (Philippines) - Dennis Schroder capped his historical run at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 by taking home the TISSOT Most Valuable Player award after guiding Germany to their first ever title.
Schroder tallied 28 points in Germany's 83-77 win over Serbia in the Final. The team captain scored at least 14 points for the seventh time in eight games. For the tournament, he averaged 19.1 points, 6.1 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game.
Schroder shined throughout the tournament with his biggest highlight being a masterful 30-point, 8-assist showing in Germany's win over Australia. He also collected 24 points and 10 assists versus Slovenia.
It was the second straight elite performance on the big stage as Schroder was named to the All-Star 5 of the FIBA EuroBasket 2022, where Germany finished third.
Schroder was joined on the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 All-Star 5 by Bogdan Bogdanovic of Serbia, Canada star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Anthony Edwards from USA, and Slovenia star Luka Doncic.
Bogdanovic averaged 19.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.1 steals per game including picking up 17 points and 5 assists in the Final.
Gilgeous-Alexander finished the tournament with 24.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and 1.6 steals per game in helping Canada finish third for their first medal in history.
Edwards collected 18.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in helping USA reach the Semi-Finals. He showed his star status by scoring 35 points against Lithuania.
Doncic was outstanding all tournament joining the exclusive 200-point club as he averaged 27.0 points to go along with 7.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game.
