Hodge: “We are upset with our final standing but I know we gave it our all”

CORDOBA (FIBA AmeriCup 2017) -Walter Hodge was, without a doubt, the star player of the Virgin Islands, the surprise team of the FIBA AmeriCup 2017. Although they were defeated by Mexico in the Final Four match for the third place, his team reached their best standing ever in a continental tournament. In this context, the talented player expressed his disappointment for not winning a medal, but was proud of the valuable experience they had in Bahia Blanca and Cordoba.

“We are upset with our final standing, but we can’t ignore the fact that we were missing two key players: Cuthbert Victor and Justin Gray. This forced us to play the Final Round with a team of short men. Besides, I know we gave it our all and I’m pleased with that,” said the highest scorer of his side, who averaged 16 points per game.

“I’m very happy with the guys, because they’ve had the experience of playing in a great tournament and they stepped up to the plate. Obviously, we didn’t score as much as we did in the first two games, which were the ones that got us to the Final Four. But it’s only natural,” Hodge mentioned.

"Nevertheless, I reaffirm how happy I am with my teammates’ performance. Without a doubt, they’ll continue to strive to improve and I hope, in the future, that we have all the pieces to compete at the highest level," he concluded.
