Salvadores ready to lead Spanish charge at U19 Women's Worlds

ALCOBENDAS (2015 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship) - All eyes will be fixed on the prodigious talent of Angela Salvadores when Spain take the floor at the FIBA U19 Women's World Championship.

The reigning FIBA Europe Young Women's Player of the Year is likely to be the centrepiece of the Spain team that will go up against Group B rivals China, Egypt and defending champions, the USA.

It was against the USA last year that Salvadores truly exploded and raised to global prominence within the women's game.

She was sensational in the Final of the FIBA U17 Women's World Championship when she almost carried Spain to the title and landed the MVP award for her stellar efforts.

With Spain having missed out on the U19 podium in Lithuania two years ago, Salvadores will be tasked with trying to inspire Spain towards a medal when she makes her first appearance in the competition.

She will be joined by many other talented players including several of her U17 team-mates from Czech Republic such as Laia Raventos, Iho Lopez and Maite Cazorla, who have been named on the preliminary candidate list.

Salvadores also played at the U18 European Championship Women last year in Matosinhos, where Spain had to be contented with a third-place finish and it is the leading lights from that roster which make up the bulk of the contenders.

Laura Quevedo will be expected to shine in the frontcourt and show leadership in the paint, while the team will be overseen by head coach, Mario Lopez.

Spain preliminary squad for 2015 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship: Ana Begona Calvo, Maite Cazorla, Laia Clavero, Itsaso Conde, Laia Flores, Nogaye Lo, Iho Lopez, Cristina Molinuevo, Helena Oma, Helena Orts, Laura Quevedo, Laia Raventos, Clara Rodriguez, Angela Salvadores, Lucia Togores, Sara Zaragoza.
