Mixed final preparation fortunes for Brazil

CHEKHOV (2015 FIBA Women's World Championship) - Brazil head coach Guilherme Vos will take his team into the 2015 FIBA Women's World Championship off the back of mixed results in their final preparations for the tournament.

The South American nation were dismantled 81-43 by Russia in their final warm-up game in Chekhov, although did take a nice 56-49 success against U18 European Championship Women finalists France only 24 hours earlier.

"These high reference friendlies are for our individual and collective assessment before the World Championship," stressed Vos.

"The victory against France, a team of a high-level was very important in this process.

"This result gave us a victory that goes beyond the scoreboard.

"It brings our athletes together and makes sure that a motivated group like ours, can overcome many obstacles."

Meanwhile, despite the defeat to the host nation, forward Bianca Araujo Da Silva was still harnessing the positives from the French triumph and also acknowledged why Russia are being installed as a serious contender.

"Our practices have been very strong ever since we got together in Brazil," she said.

"Already here in Russia, we have conducted training and have held two important friendlies as part of the process.

"We won the first game against France, which was a very fierce dispute and we showed our game.

"Then we were overcome by the excellent team of Russia.

"They are the current European champions and showed their rotation is very good.

"The importance of these confrontations is to assess and even fix some errors before we appear in the competition.

"We are a very united group and hopefully we can have a good opening match at the World Championship," she added.

Brazil will tip off their Group D campaign against Korea on Saturday and will also face Australia and Serbia.
