Home comfort helps TTT, Olympiacos and Wisla all locked up in Qualifiers

MUNICH (EuroLeague Women) -  TTT Riga made the most of home advantage in the first leg of the EuroLeague Women Qualifiers, while there was no daylight between Olympiacos and Wisla CANPACK.

Making their eagerly awaited return to the competition, TTT Riga closed out what could be a priceless 67-56 first-leg success against Reyer Venezia, with the Italians looking to make the Regular Season for the first time.

The locals in Riga enjoyed seeing strong performances from their team, including Sheylani Peddy who netted 19 points. Rather ironically, it was Latvia national team ace Anete Steinberga who starred for the visitors with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

There is nothing to separate Olympiacos or Wisla CANPACK heading into the second leg of their Qualifier.

Perhaps the Greek club will be happier, even if they have to now travel to Krakow, since they trailed by as many as 16 points, before a late comeback resulted in a 63-63 outcome.

Pinelopi Pavlopoulou continued her good form from the recent FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2018 as she added a smart 12 points. Her Olympiacos teammate Jessica Thomas fired 10 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Spanish compatriots Leonor Rodriguez and Maria Conde shared 28 points for Wisla.

"A tie is not the best result for us," Olympiacos forward Aikaterina Sotiriou commented following the game, but still drew some positives. "I am very satisfied with our comeback in the game after our bad game in the third period. This shows that we have character as a team.

"The Olympiacos fans helped us so much - it was such a pleasure to play in front of this crowd. Now we have to leave this game behind and be focused in the next one, in Poland, which I expect to be a hard one!"

Both second-leg games will take place on Friday night.
