Torrens Excited Ahead Of Homecoming

MUNICH (FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017 Qualifiers) - Alba Torrens has expressed her excitement at the prospect of wearing national team colours again when she steps out with Spain for their FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017 qualifier against Sweden.

The UMMC Ekaterinburg star missed the first qualifying window last November with an injury and can't wait to make her return as Spain look to wrap up a double against their opponents - having taken an impressive and comprehensive 75-52 success in Sweden without their prize asset.

"Coming home is always exciting," smiled Torrens, who can also look forward to competing in the EuroLeague Women Quarter-Finals next month.

"We are a family and we always look forward to meeting again.

"The objectives of each of us are the same - to be the best in the group.

"That makes the fight and the challenge even more rewarding when playing for the national team.

"The events of November were very important, because of the great work and the results that were achieved - it was a huge step."

But she warned, "We have not yet qualified and Sweden are a great team that will pose a tough game and we have to be prepared for it.

"In order to win, we have to play a very serious match and be at our best by preparing for this meeting in Logrono."

Meanwhile Lucas Mondelo will return to the sidelines for the contest, having handed the coaching reins to his trusted assistant Victor Lapena for the first group games against Sweden and Finland.

Spain's 13-player roster:

Anna Cruz, Silvia Dominguez, Laura Gil, Nogaye Lo, Sancho Lyttle, Astou Ndour, Cristina Ouvina, Laia Palau, Lucila Pascua, Laura Quevedo, Laura Nicholls, Alba Torrens and Marta Xargay.
