Today's FIBA Asia Challenge Games: Wednesday 14 September

TEHRAN (FIBA Asia Challenge 2016) - Here are the six games to look forward to on Day 6 of the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016 in Tehran, Iran.

Jordan v Philippines

This game may no longer have any consequence in so far as qualifying for the Quarter-Finals is concerned, but the Philippines would certainly love to end their rough campaign on a bright note. That will be easier said than done, though, especially after the way Jordan blasted Chinese Taipei last night.

China v Chinese Taipei

Any game between these two East Asian neighbors is bound to get testy, and this should have no shortage of high intensity moments. Chinese Taipei has beaten China the last two times they’ve met (2013 FIBA Asia Championship and 2014 FIBA Asia Cup), so that element of payback will be present. Coach Li Nan will also surely want his squad to bounce back in a big way after they got tripped by India yesterday.

Iraq v Thailand

Both these teams sustained losses yesterday, and they’d love nothing more than to recover on the final day of group play. Iraq, however, need the win more, since they will need as much momentum as they can heading into the next round. As for Thailand, coach Tim Lewis’s crew came oh so close to notching a win yesterday, and it would be an ideal ending to their campaign to finally get one here.

Kazakhstan v India

India are riding on the crest of their momentous victory against China, and that should give them a lot of confidence as they tackle the Kazakhs, who lost to the Philippines yesterday. The question here is whether coach Sat Prakash’s wards will be fresh especially after most of them played heavy minutes against the Chinese.

Iran v Korea

This should be the centerpiece match on Day 6 as both Iran and Korea are undefeated and with the Group F top seed at stake. Korea’s red hot shooting will be put to the test here against an Iranian team that has been able to repulse every other opponent convincingly. The play of veterans Hamed Haddadi and Oshin Sahakian will be crucial as well against their experienced Korean rivals.

Qatar v Japan

Qatar very nearly dropped the ball against Thailand yesterday, and they’re in for an even tougher time against the speedy Japanese here. Japan cannot let their guard down, though, since a loss here can put their Quarter-Final hopes in peril, especially if Iraq, as expected, manage to get their second win against the Thais.
