CNSS, MFM Queens dream of Semi-Final slots

CAIRO (Egypt) - Some people work best when the odds are against them. They prefer the underdog status because then they can orchestrate a storm to carry the day and before then their opponents are in on the plan, they have progressed.

CNSS from Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria's MFM Queens will be hoping that their plan works out when the FIBA Africa Women's Champions Cup Quarter-Finals get underway on Wednesday at the Cairo Indoor Stadium in the Egyptian capital.

Mariana Muadi is the go-to player for Koko Ade's side and will be expected to replicate her performances from the first three games that have seen her average 16.7 points and 10 rebounds. She brings leadership to her side and against hosts Sporting Alexandria, they will have to step up as a team.

"IT IS NEVER EASY WHEN YOU PLAY AGAINST A TEAM THAT IS AT HOME. ALSO SPORTING IS A VERY GOOD SIDE SO WE HAVE TO REMAIN FOCUSED AND EXECUTE OUR GAME PLAN. WE HAVE TO DO OUR BEST."- Ade

For Sporting whose target is to win the tournament, making it to the Semi-Finals is the only focus they have here and will do everything to get there.

Sporting center Shawnta Dyer who is averaging 14 points and 9.3 rebounds per game told FIBA.basketball that, "We are going to fight hard and we are going to try to get the win tomorrow."

CNSS head coach Ade admitted that, "It is never easy when you play against a team that is at home. Also, Sporting is a very good side so we have to remain focused and execute our game plan. We have to do our best."

Meanwhile, MFM Queens will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the last game of the day. A lot is at stake for both sides.

"Our last two games have not been easy. They have been very tough but we want to make it to the last four and to do that, we must win today's game. We have to do our best and play as a team because we did not do that against Sporting and it affected us," explained Ifunanya Okoro, MFM Queens shooting guard who has been at the centre of their attack.

Blessing Obeten will need to be solid in the paint

Reigning champions Ferroviario de Maputo take on Energie from Benin looking to remain unbeaten in the competition. The Mozambican giants, who have been flawless so far, want to improve their defense because according to captain Odelia Mafanela, that is very key to their chances of winning the championship.

Sarah Ogoke is averaging 12.7 rebounds and  6 rebounds per game

Five-time record champions InterClube of Angola take on winless FAP from Cameroon in what is expected to be a one-sided affair if the Group Phase results are anything to go by.

InterClube have played with such efficiency that FAP can only dream about posting a positive result but as basketball has duly taught in yesteryears, anything can happen.

All the games will be live on the FIBA's Youtube Channel and FIBA Africa Champions Cup Women/facebook, you can also follow our blog for live updates.
