SHANGHAI (China) – Home side Shanghai (CHN), Antwerp (BEL) and Liman (SRB) all went unbeaten as the Quarter-Finals field was finalized on a dramatic Day 1 at the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Shanghai 2026 on May 23.
Fans were treated to intense finishes, huge scoring bursts and standout individual performances as eight teams punched tickets to the knockout rounds.
Shanghai dominate on home court
Red-hot Shanghai thrilled the home crowd with dominant performances in Pool D. Led by Karlis Lasmanis and Wu Xingrui, the hosts cruised past Singapore (SGP) 21-12 before dismantling Baskets Bonn (GER) 21-10 to top the pool in style.
Wu starred in the decisive clash against Bonn with 7 points, while Lasmanis buried multiple trademark two-pointers to ignite the crowd. Despite the heavy defeat, Bonn still advanced to the Quarter-Finals after surviving a tough opener against Singapore.
Antwerp stay perfect
Antwerp impressed with a perfect Day 1 in Pool C. The Belgian side first survived a tough challenge from Kaunas VDU (LTU) 21-18 before overpowering Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy (MGL) 22-13.
Jonas Foerts starred in both wins, scoring 9 points in each game. Antwerp needed clutch plays late against a fearless Kaunas side before taking full control against Ulaanbaatar to secure top spot in the pool.
Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy cushioned their loss to Antwerp by earlier defeating Kaunas VDU 17-15 in a physical contest. Delgernyam Davaasambuu led the Mongolian side with 5 points as they held off a late Lithuanian rally. That win was enough for the Mongolian side to advance.
Pool B chaos
Pool B delivered some of the biggest surprises of the day.
Skyliners (GER) looked dominant after crushing Sansar M Bank (MGL) 21-14 behind 8 points from Stefan Kojic, but the German side were stunned in their final pool game by Hangzhou Jingwei (CHN) 22-11.
Vuk Borovićanin erupted for 11 points as Hangzhou caught fire from deep and completely disrupted Skyliners’ rhythm. The result created a three-way tie in Pool B, with Hangzhou Jingwei topping the group and Sansar M Bank also advancing based on point totals.
Sansar M Bank opened their campaign with a hard-fought 19-16 victory over Hangzhou Jingwei behind 9 points from Bolor-Erdene Gantsolmon.
Liman survive despite upset
Liman still topped Pool A despite suffering a dramatic 21-18 defeat to DeQing (CHN) in one of the most intense games of Day 1.
DeQing came out firing and built an early cushion behind confident shot-making and physical defense. Zhang Dianliang led the way with 7 points, while Guo Hanyu delivered a huge late two-pointer before sealing the upset from the free-throw line.
Earlier, Liman defeated Crvena Zvezda (SRB) 22-17 behind 8 points from Stefan Milivojevic, including the game-winning two-pointer in a high-level Serbian showdown.
Crvena Zvezda also advanced to the Quarter-Finals after opening the day with a convincing 21-13 victory earlier in the day over DeQing powered by 9 points from Marko Dordevic.
Shootout Contest heats up
The Shootout Contest presented by YM also delivered excitement as Vuk Vukićević (Crvena Zvezda), Bolor-Erdene Gantsolmon (Sansar M Bank), Anand Ariunbold (Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy) and Niklas Kropp (Skyliners) advanced to the final on Day 2.
