Valcea the star of Tulcea as hosts Romania advance
Romania leaned on the overall brilliance of Ioana-Vanessa Velcea as they reached the Division B Final with a convincing 78-48 win over Lithuania.
Velcea led the victors with 29 points, with four three-pointers in that haul. She also had a whopping 7 steals in a performance for the ages, helping Romania build a 36-26 lead midway through the second and watching it grow to as many as 41 points.
After coming back from 15 points down yesterday against Greece, this time, there was no way back for Lithuania, who could only manage 24 percent from the field. Vakare Griskute and Barbora Prismontaite had 7 points apiece.
Israel use a strong second half to beat Austria
After a closely fought first 20 minutes, Israel breezed clear in the third to beat Austria 78-63 to reach the Final and bounce straight back to Division A, having been relegated the year before.
With the game nicely poised at 36-33 in Israel's favor, it was they who made the first big move by leading 54-46 with 3:03 left, and after 14 lead changes, this time Austria were unable to mount a comeback.
