KRABI (Thailand) – Philippines defeated hosts Thailand 85-70 in the title contest of the FIBA U18 Asia Cup 2026 SEABA Qualifiers at this beach tourism destination the past weekend maintaining their supremacy as a basketball force in the region.
By virtue of playing the final of the FIBA Asia Sub-Zone qualifying competition, both Philippines and Thailand qualified for the FIBA U18 Asia Cup 2026 scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad (India) from Aug 13-23, 2026.
Philippines maintained a clean slate in their Group Phase while making it to the Semi-Finals of the competition, while Thailand had lost only to the Philippines.
In the criss-cross Semi-Finals, Philippines routed Malaysia 130-54 and Thailand overcame Indonesia 68-50 to book their place in the Finals of the regional competition as also their tickets to Ahmedabad.

The SEABA duo thus joined six other Asian teams along with Australia and New Zealand as the teams to qualify for the biennial FIBA’s flagship event for youth National Teams in Asia. India who are preparing to host the event for the first time in more than two decades are qualified automatically as hosts.
Five more teams will come through the Qualifiers from other FIBA Asia Sub-Zones over the next few weeks to complete the line-up for FIBA U18 Asia Cup 2026.
Teams in the West Asia Basketball Association are scheduled to play the WABA U18 Qualifiers in Amman (Jordan) from July 7-11, 2026 qualifying three teams followed by the Gulf Basketball Association U18 Qualifiers scheduled to played in Doha (Qatar) from July 17-22, 2026 qualifying two teams for the continental competition.
