Amer finished with her second straight double-double.

CAIRO (Egypt)- Al Ahly Sporting Club have, expectedly, continued to dominate Group A, seamlessly beating 2023 semifinalists Rwanda Energy Group (REG) 88-60 in their second game to improve to 2-0. For the second game in a row, 2022 WBLA Most Valuable Player Hagar Amer was in her element, dropping her second double-double of the 2025 Women's Basketball League Africa (WBLA).

We go and hope to lift the title unbeaten - Hagar Amer

She led her team in scoring with leading 18 points, a two-point improvement from the first, and adding 10 rebounds. Amer, making a comeback to the continental competition after her championship-winning run with Alexandria Sporting in 2022, in Maputo and 2023 at home, shot 5-for-12 from the floor, including 2-for-4 from deep. Her 8 offensive rebounds contributed to Al Ahly Sporting's 19 second-chance points off 20 pulldowns. She added 3 assists, a steal and a block to finish with 23 in efficiency rating. The win was, however, more a team effort rather than a solo show, as four others scored in double digits, including gameday one top scorer Raneem Elgedawy, who came off the bench to drop 16 points, adding 8 rebounds one less than Nadine Mohamed who scored 14, adding 5 assists and two steals in the victory.

Talking to FIBA.basketball, Amer said: "REG are a good side so we had prepared well for them and we executed both offensively and defensively for a successful game. We set the tone early, with the fans playing their part of course, as we wanted to kill the game." She continued: "We are not going ahead of ourselves despite a 2-0 run, and while the target is the championship we know every team is good and well prepared to take on every challenge as it comes, make adjustments as we go and hope to lift the title unbeaten."
