CAIRO (Egypt) - The 2025 WBLA curtain came down on Sunday with hosts Al Ahly Sporting Club lifting their first-ever African title.
The 3,000-seat Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports Hall in Cairo, which hosted the 2025 WBLA, was filled to capacity for the occasion.
Al Ahly Sporting Club became the second Egyptian club to win the competition after Sporting Alexandria's victories in 2022 and 2023.
Al Ahly Sporting Club were the only undefeated team, finishing with a perfect 6-0 record. They were followed by three-time African champions Ferroviario de Maputo, who returned home with a 5–1 win–loss record.
In the Third-Place play-off, played two hours before the grand finale, Rwanda's Armee Patriotique Rwandaise (APR) saw off Senegal's ASC Ville de Dakar 90–84 in overtime to take home the bronze medal for the second year in a row.
Last year, APR also defeated the hosts, ASC Ville de Dakar, in the Third-Place play-off at the packed Marius N'Diaye Gymnasium in Dakar.
In the Fifth-Place play-off, debutants Sporting Club de Luanda of Angola defeated Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 74–67.
Earlier in the day, Rwanda's REG got away with a 77–72 win over DR Congo's CNSS in the seventh-place play-off.
Raneem Elgedawy of Al Ahly Sporting Club was named the 2025 WBLA Most Valuable Player.
Elgedawy was joined in the 2025 WBLA All-Tournament Team by Aliyah Matharu (ASC Ville de Dakar), Yacine Diop (APR), Ingvild Mucauro (Ferroviario de Maputo) and Hagar Amer (Al Ahly Sporting Club).
