MIES (Switzerland) - The successful conclusion of the fourth window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Qualifiers brought movement in the Top 10 of the FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike.
USA and Germany won both of their games and continue to dominate the standings, but they are now joined on the podium by France, who edged past Serbia by a very fine margin. The two European teams recorded two wins last week, but France moved ahead of the Serbs after winning against a slightly stronger opposition.
Australia, who remain undefeated in the Asian Qualifiers, came close to reclaiming sixth place from Spain, who moved into this position following Window 3 in July.
Türkiye are the biggest climbers in the Top 10. The first team to punch their ticket to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, they jumped two places to ninth and are now within touching distance of Argentina, who sit just ahead of them in eighth place.
Finland are the other team moving up in the Top 20, thanks to a convincing road win against Estonia, while also benefiting from Puerto Rico’s two defeats in the Americas Qualifiers.
Mexico are the highest-ranked team to move up in the Americas, gaining two spots to 26th after two wins against Colombia and, most notably, Brazil, who were a Top 10 team at the time.
In the African Qualifiers, Angola enjoyed a strong window, picking up wins against Côte d'Ivoire and the Democratic Republic of the Congo and making the biggest rise among the Top 80 teams. African teams played three games during this window, giving them more opportunities to earn ranking points.
The biggest climbers overall come from the FIBA Asia Cup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers. Kuwait, Malaysia and Hong Kong, China all gain eight places. The event provided lower-ranked teams with an opportunity to earn significant ranking points compared to their previous totals.
Five new teams join the ranking with this update: the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau, following the FIBA Micronesian Cup 2026, and Kyrgyzstan, Maldives and Nepal, following the FIBA Asia Cup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers. The FIBA World Ranking Men now features a total of 159 teams, reflecting the continued growth of the game on a global level.
This update of the FIBA World Ranking Men has introduced a second tier for the Margin of Victory Factor.
Teams will not only benefit from a bonus for winning by 15 points or more, as is currently the case: if a team wins by 30 points or more, its Game Rating Points will be multiplied by a higher factor, better reflecting its performance on the court.
