FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers: Everything you need to know ahead of Window 2

    Short Read

As the road to Qatar 2027 heats up, here is your guide to the games and competition details from February 26 to March 2.

MIAMI (United States) – The journey to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 in Qatar continues with the second window of the Americas Qualifiers. Across the Americas, 16 national teams are competing in the First Round, divided into four groups of four teams each. This stage will run through July 2026 (third window). The top three teams from each group will advance to the Second Round (August and November 2026, and February 2027), where only seven teams will ultimately secure a spot at the World Cup. The games in Window 2 are crucial, as teams that got off to a strong start in last November’s matchups will look to solidify their positions heading into the next phase. Meanwhile, those who stumbled early will aim to get back on track and keep their World Cup hopes alive. Another slip-up at this stage could prove costly. With the competition gaining momentum, here is everything you need to know ahead of the Americas Qualifiers Window 2:

    Which games can’t I miss?

Several of the region’s top teams will face off, reigniting some long-standing rivalries. Here are some of the most anticipated matchups:

Puerto Rico vs. Canada (February 26) – Group B

The Caribbean side leads the all-time series 17–8, but Canada has won the last two meetings, most recently at the AmeriCup 2025.

United States vs. Dominican Republic (February 26) – Group A

The Dominican Republic has won only once in the last nine meetings, which came at the AmeriCup in 1989. The United States enters as the favorite due to its depth.

Brazil vs. Venezuela (February 27) – Group C

Two familiar South American foes. Brazil leads the recent head-to-head 18–10 and looks poised to extend its dominance. The reigning continental champions face a Venezuelan team in transition.

Argentina vs. Uruguay (February 27) – Group D

However, this South American rivalry is driven more by geographical proximity than by results. Argentina holds a commanding 26–8 edge in recent meetings, but Uruguay has won two of the last three games.
