Platteeuw grabs MVP honors, tops All-Star Five

    Ian Platteeuw helped lead Spain to yet another U18 title as MVP

    Ian Platteeuw took home the MVP award after helping Spain win the crown.

    BELGRADE (Serbia) - Ian Platteeuw had a FIBA U18 EuroBasket 2025 to remember as the center won the Most Valuable Player award in helping Spain win the title.

    Platteeuw also headlined the All-Star Five alongside Maxence Lemoine of finalists France, Diego Garavaglia from third-placed finishers Italy, Latvia's Valdis Valters and Pavle Backo of Serbia.

    MVP - Ian Platteeuw (ESP)

    Ian Platteeuw grabbed the MVP honors for being Spain's real force in the middle, giving opponents problems all tournament. The center collected 11 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in the Final. All told, Platteeuw averaged 10.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

    Maxence Lemoine (FRA)

    Maxence Lemoine was so close to finally getting France their much-awaited fifth title, but they came up just short. In the Final, the guard had 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Lemoine averaged 14.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.1 steals.

    Diego Garavaglia (ITA)

    Diego Garavaglia was strong at both ends all tournament in helping Italy grab third place. For the tournament the forward scored 14.3 points in hitting 42 percent on three-pointers. Garavaglia also grabbed 7.6 rebounds, dished out 2.6 assists and picking up 2.9 steals and 1.0 blocks.

    Valdis Valters (LAT)

    Valdis Valters nearly gave Latvia their first podium finish since taking second place in 2018. The point guard helped the country reach the Semi-Finals, but could not grab another win to leave empty-handed. Valters' top highlight was a game-winning layup against Germany in the Quarter-Finals. For the tournament, he averaged 14.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists.

    Pavle Backo (SRB)

    Pavle Backo shined bright in his first FIBA event as the big man helped Serbia finish in fifth place. Backo collected 16.7 points to go with 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks.
