    Review

Tanzania may have arrived in Kigali as outsiders, but women's basketball in the East African country will surely never be the same again.

KIGALI (Rwanda) - In addition to the quarter-final fixtures, Game Day 11 of the 2025 FIBA U16 Women's AfroBasket tournament featured some exciting Classification Round matches.

On Friday, fans following the tournament were eager to find out who would finish where in the classification for 5th–9th places.

Read on for a summary of the events in Kigali.

    Angola vs. Rwanda 5th-6th Place

In their first meeting of the tournament, Angola and hosts Rwanda, who were both knocked out in the quarter-finals by Mali and Côte d'Ivoire respectively, competed for fifth place.

Angola dominated from start to finish in a one-sided game, prevailing 67-40.

This victory saw Angola secure fifth place, two years after beating Tunisia in the third-place play-off.

Rwanda, on the other hand, improved on their seventh-place finish in the 2023 tournament.

    Tanzania vs. Tunisia 7th-8th Place

A week after their shock 60-53 victory over Tunisia in a Group A fixture, Tanzania did it again.

This time, they won by an even larger margin (70-59).

This was Tanzania's second win in four games, having lost to Rwanda and Egypt in earlier fixtures.

While Tunisia returned home having finished seventh — a four-place drop from the 2023 tournament — Tanzania achieved a remarkable seventh-place finish that will boost morale.

    Morocco vs. Kenya

In the three-team play-off for 9th–11th place, Morocco defeated Kenya 43–38 to secure a place in the 9th-place play-off against Guinea on Saturday, 13 September.
