GDANSK (Poland) - Reigning world champions Germany ended Poland’s unbeaten run after claiming a 96-94 overtime victory in the FIBA Basketball World Cup European Qualifiers.

Germany delivered a composed, clinical performance from start to finish, ending Poland’s impressive seven-game winning streak with flawless execution when it mattered most - and to put any pending qualification party on ice.

Dennis Schroder once again led the way with 18 points and 5 assists, scoring and providing that big-game experience that helped the visitors control the game in the crucial moments. He hit the game-winning free throws with 17 seconds left to seal the win.

The German captain was instrumental as the world champions silenced a passionate home crowd and strengthened their position in the qualification campaign.

Germany have now continued their strong run of form as they look to build toward next summer’s FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar, where they will attempt to defend the title they won in 2023.

For Poland, the challenge now is to regroup quickly after a painful loss in front of their home fans, but they remain in a strong position to book their tickets to Qatar in the next window.

Mateusz Ponitka was Poland’s standout performer, finishing with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists as the hosts battled to stay within reach and nearly took it to double overtime.

The result leaves Türkiye as the only unbeaten team left in Europe, and they have the chance to continue a push towards an elusive 12-0 record when they play on Monday.
