The new No. 1 is Canada's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who played last month with Canada in the World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers.

SGA the reigning two-time NBA MVP, faced Jamaica in the last window of the Americas Qualifiers

The Oklahoma City playmaker won back-to-back regular-season MVP awards in 2025 and 2026 and finished second in the NBA in scoring in 2026, averaging 31.1 points per game. He became the first guard in NBA history to average more than 30 points while shooting better than 55 percent from the field.

At the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, he led Canada to a historic third-place finish and their first-ever podium in the competition. He was rewarded with a place in the All-Star 5. One year later, SGA led Canada to fifth place at the Paris Olympics, their first appearance at the Summer Games in 24 years.

Wembanyama, who last played for France at the Olympics, faces Nikola Jokic and Serbia twice this week in friendlies

Jumping all the way from No. 9 in the previous NBA 2K26 ranking to No. 2 is France sensation Victor Wembanyama, whose all-around play spearheaded the San Antonio Spurs’ run to the 2026 NBA Finals. He will play next week for Les Bleus in Window 4 of the World Cup Qualifiers.

Wemby: "I do not miss the NBA right now, I miss FIBA basketball"

Wemby, an All-Star Five selection at the Olympics 2024 after leading France to the Gold Medal Game, now has three years of NBA experience under his belt. His eye-popping numbers for the Spurs last season included averages of 25 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game.

Wemby leapfrogged the previous edition’s No. 1, Serbia’s Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, who remains high at No. 3 after another astonishing NBA campaign in which he averaged a triple-double, posting 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game.

Jokic last featured for Serbia in the third window of the European Qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup

Serbia host France in Belgrade on Thursday, while Jokic and Co. will face Wemby and Les Bleus again in Orleans on Sunday.

Newcomers to the top 10 include USA guard Jalen Brunson of the New York Knicks, the NBA Finals MVP, and Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham.

Brunson was a USA guard at the 2023 World Cup in Manila

Brunson has been a USA player since capturing the FIBA U18 AmeriCup title in Colorado Springs. One year later, he scooped the MVP award at the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in Crete after helping the USA to the title.

With the senior team, he was a valuable member of the USA roster that finished fourth at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Manila.

Cunningham made a splash for the USA at the 2019 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup, also in Crete, playing a leading role in the team's title run.
