ZARAGOZA (Spain) - Spanish rising star Iyana Martin Carrion has been named as the EuroLeague Women Young Player of the Year after a standout first season in the competition for Perfumerias Avenida.
The guard caught fire more or less as soon as she stepped onto the court for Perfumerias Avenida at the elite level and lit it up across her maiden campaign with an array of sparkling contributions.
Playing a near 27 minutes per game for Avenida and making a significant splash, she was an instant hit with the fans in Salamanca and became an influential figure from the outset.
Finishing in the top three for Avenida when it came to scoring with 10.5 points per game, she was also second in assists with 3.4 per outing and added an average of 4.3 rebounds too.
The 19-year-old was selected for the honor via a combination of the votes of EuroLeague Women coaches, players, selected media and the fans.
The teenager becomes the second player from Perfumerias Avenida to have secured the accolade, picking up the baton from last year's winner, Sika Kone.
Martin Carrion squeezed out the two other finalists in the category, who were Leila Lacan of Basket Landes and Matilde Villa of Umana Reyer Venezia.
