Avenida legend Dominguez calls time on stellar career

    SALAMANCA (Spain) - Three-time EuroLeague Women champion Silvia Dominguez is hanging up her game shoes and has been heralded as Perfumerias Avenida's greatest player of all-time by the Spanish club.

    The playmaker steps away from the competition after an amazing 18 seasons, having suited up with UMMC Ekaterinburg, Ros Casares and Avenida, where she spent 14 years in total across two different spells.

    A fierce competitor and leader on the court, Dominguez departs having played in 254 EuroLeague Women games; scoring 1506 points, grabbing 581 rebounds and snapping up 208 steals. But most impressively of all, she handed out 941 assists and that puts her third on the all-time list in the competition.

    Her first title came for Avenida when they made history in 2011 by lifting the famous silverware for the first time. A year later and having switched to Valencia-based Ros Casares, she won it again.

    Then, departing for Russian powerhouse UMMC Ekaterinburg the following season, she incredibly made it three titles in a row.

    Including domestic success with Avenida, she won 17 trophies at the Spanish club and is revered by her former and current teammates - as well as the fans at Pabellon Wurzburg.

    Dominguez also attained huge success in Spanish national team colours and announced her retirement from the international stage last year.

    She appeared at an eye-catching eight editions of the FIBA Women's EuroBasket and landed six medals - lifting the title in 2013, 2017 and 2019.

    With 56 games and 108 assists - both figures see her placed in second spot on Spain's all-time chart.

    The 38-year-old also made history by helping Spain reach the Final of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup for the first time in 2014 and the Olympic Final for the first time in 2016.
