Czech Republic ready to move on in Qualifiers

PRAGUE (FIBA Women’s 2019 EuroBasket Qualifiers) – Czech Republic will have to turn the page when they look to the likes of Alena Hanusova and Katerina Elhotova to pick up the leadership reins for the FIBA Women's 2019 Qualifiers.

A new chapter has already been written with the appointment of new head coach, Stefan Svitek and the retirements of long-serving players such as Ilona Burgrova and Petra Kulichova.

Alena Hanusova Jana Hausknechtova Romana Hejdova Kristyna Minarovicova
Tereza Peckova Renata Pudlakova J Julia Reisengerova Kamila Stepanova
Edita Sujanova Kia Vaughn Veronika Vorackova Petra Zaplatova

Also needing to move on from the crushing disappointment of their on-court shortcomings as hosts of the Final Round earlier this year when they didn't make it past the initial phase, a strong window will be hugely important.

The inclusion of ZVVZ USK Prague duo Hanusova and Elhotova is a big positive – as is the potential continued service of the naturalized Kia Vaughn, with the Fenerbahce center available to add muscle in the paint.

The main concern for Coach Svitek will be a familiar one to fans of Czech Republic and that is where they can find a top-quality playmaker at the highest level.

Czech Republic will play against Belgium, Germany and Switzerland in Group B.
