Canada to play four-nation exhibition tournament in USA in preparation for Rio

ONTARIO (Rio 2016 Olympic Games) - Canada's senior women's national team will travel to the USA to play a four-nation warm-up tournament in July as part of the preparations for the Rio Olympics, Basketball Canada announced on Thursday.

The 2016 USA Basketball Showcase will run from July 27-31.

Canada will open their US tour by facing Australia on July 27 in Newark, Delaware. Two days later they will take on the USA in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Lisa Thomaidis’ team will conclude the series of exhibition games at the majestic Madison Square Garden arena in New York City where they will square off against France on July 31.

The four-nation tournament comes three weeks after the Canadian team travelled to Spain and France, where they collected a 4-1 record thanks to wins over Cuba, France, Australia, China and a defeat to Spain.

Before Canada cross the border for the in the US, they will host China in a three-game series in Edmonton from 9-11 July.

Canada have been drawn in Group B of the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament's along with the USA, Spain, Senegal, Serbia, and China.
