The Women's South American League started with victories from Audaz Octubrino and Leonas Medellín

MEDELLIN (Colombia) - With two vibrant matches which opened Group B, the region's most important women's clubs' competition dazzled everyone, and it's raised expectations regarding Friday's matches.

If the opening match between Audaz Octubrino from Ecuador and Pastoras de Lara was appealing, what was seen between Leonas Medellín from Colombia and Carl A-Z from Bolivia took things to the next level.

What's true is that the Women's South American League started on a level so high, it even surpassed the expectations that were already quite high.

In the "Coliseo Mayor Iván de Bedout", with an unbeatable situation for such an important occasion, the Ecuadorian victory 71-56 did not quite reflect, with that final score, how close the match actually was.

However, the potent foreign trident that the last Ecuadorian champion presented managed to break the mixture of experience and youth brought to the court by the Venezuelans and, consequently, won the two points.

After that, in a true three-pointers carnival, Leonas Medellín beat Carl A-Z by the minimum difference, 67-66.

Names of international prestige gave a little something extra to what already was an already entertaining match from minute one. The Colombian National Team captain, Yaneth Arias, ended up being a key part in the lineup led by professor Luis Cuenca, so that the locals could take the win.

Another paragraph should be dedicated to what the winner's shooter, Tatiana Acosta, did, as well as one of the two foreign reinforcements the Bolivian team presented: Katrina Pardee.

In the third quarter, they both equaled the record of three-pointers scored in a match (4), still held by four players from the 2019 edition. However, Pardee took it one step further and, with a fifth one, established a new record under her name, leaving a magnificent impression in her first League match.

Excitement in segment B will continue this Friday, where Carl A-Z will face Audaz Octubrino in the first shift (4pm Colombian time). After that (7pm Colombian time) Pastoras de Lara will do the same against Leonas Medellín.
