Roundup: Pre-season friendlies flowing

MUNICH (EuroLeague Women 2017) – The pre-season is well underway around Europe and most EuroLeague Women clubs have already taken to the court for their first important footsteps ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

Dynamo Kursk have a new play-caller in Lucas Mondelo and the Spanish coach has been with his new club team in a camp in Croatia which has also provided the opportunity for a trio of victories. His side overwhelmed Slovenian champions Celje 90-56, waltzed past Hungarian opponents Atomeromu 88-57 and humbled domestic rivals and EuroCup Women entrants Enisey Krasnoyarsk 87-72.

The newly arrived teenage sensation Maria Vadeeva has been the standout star after top scoring in the first two outings with 17 and 15 points respectively, before then recording 19 points in the final game.

At the former home of Coach Mondelo in Salamanca, there is much anticipation from Perfumerias Avenida fans as they countdown the days until the start of what could be a fascinating and exhilarating EuroLeague Women campaign.

Their enthusiasm was evidenced when over 1,000 spectators turned up for a 75-50 win against fellow Spanish side CB Al Qazares as new signing Adaora Elonu poured in 20 points and Angela Salvadores hit a huge buzzer-beater.

Italian title holders Beretta Famila Schio are on French soil for friendly match-ups against fellow EuroLeague Women competitors Basket Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration and EuroCup Women rookies Cavigal Nice Basket 06.

Schio came away with an 83-60 win in the first meeting against BLMA and that included a reunion with their former favourite Elodie Godin – although the visitors have not been able to hand out court time to their new French forward in Endene Miyem.

The 2015 EuroLeague Women champions ZVVZ USK Prague had to work hard without some of their big-hitters to defeat EuroCup Women side Basketball Nymburk 65-61. It was the homegrown talent that shone brightly, with Tereza Vyoralova dropping a team-high 19 points.
