CCC Polkowice preparation enthuses Czeczuro ahead of return to EuroLeague Women

POLKOWICE (EuroLeague Women 2017) – When CCC Polkowice dip their toes back into EuroLeague Women next month they will have to be at their very best to make the kind of impact they made on their last adventure in the competition.

That culminated in a first ever Final Eight spot in Ekaterinburg and some special memories for the fans as players like Laia Palau and Nnemkadi Ogwumike combined for the Polish side.

While reaching such heights might prove tricky on their first season back, head coach Vadim Czeczuro is confident that his team have at least prepared as well as possible at this vital stage.

“At our camp, the girls spent time together not only training, but also outside of the court,” emphasised the former Ukraine national team boss.

“They had the opportunity to become better acquainted and in this way it built up the atmosphere in the team. In my opinion, this is 60-70 percent of what determines the ultimate success.

“Training in the mountains was hard work and we worked on large loads of activity with the focus on building strength and endurance.

“I must admit that for the first time in my career, the girls actually went to camp in good shape. This demonstrated their complete professionalism, since in their spare time, each of the players have cared about being in the best possible physical shape.”

While the play-caller watched his players fall to successive defeats in a pre-season double-header against Artego Bydgoszcz, it is unlikely the 73-63 and 73-66 defeats will concern Czeczuro.

That’s because there were plenty of positives – including a 17 and 16 point contribution from new signing Marija Rezan, with the Croatian national team center likely to be the pivotal player in this year’s campaign.

There was also a boost in the backcourt, where Valeriya Musina has put her basketball shoes back on after taking a sabbatical from the sport. The Russian guard who played at EuroBasket Women 2013 in France showed she still has a scoring touch and scored an encouraging 17 points in both friendly encounters.

CCC Polkowice continue their preparations this weekend with a tournament involving KP Valosun Brno, Good Angels Kosice and Artego Bydgoszcz.
