EuroLeague Women Semi-Finals: Social media spotlight and reaction

EKATERINBURG (EuroLeague Women Final Four) - We catch up with those involved in the exciting EuroLeague Women Semi-Finals and take a look at how the action went down on social media.

It was a huge day for Candace Parker, since she only recently signed with Fenerbahce and after some seven years at UMMC Ekaterinburg, she broke the hearts of her former club by helping her new side rack up a 77-61 triumph. The forward also did so alongside frontcourt partner Sandrine Gruda - another ex-UMMC star.

"It was a little strange coming back and I never thought I would ever be on the visiting team," stated Parker.

"We just stayed with it, ran our sets and got defensive stops. I didn't have my best game, but everyone stepped up.

"We now look at the Final as a great opportunity, because that is exactly what it is."

UMMC did come up with some big defensive plays, which impressed.

However it was their offense that came up short, with only Diana Taurasi and her 26 points standing out against her former club.

She said: "Fener played very well and executed on offense. They did all the little things needed to win the game that we had hoped to do.

"It wasn't our night and we were a little off."

There were a couple of particularly interested observers courtside in DeWanna Bonner who played in last year's title game for Nadezhda - alongside an Australian legend and former Fenerbahce player, Penny Taylor. Both were also WNBA team-mates with Phoenix.

In the second Semi-Final, there was high drama as Dynamo Kursk squeezed out an 87-80 overtime win against ZVVZ USK Prague to set up a Final showdown against Fenerbahce. Angel McCoughtry led the way with 28 points, with Kursk also getting a sweet 18 points and 8 boards from Maria Vadeeva. McCoughtry was tough at the defensive end too.

"It was a tough game - very tough and that is what a EuroLeague Women game should be like. Right down to the wire and into overtime" said the small forward.

She added, "We didn't play well and we didn't shoot the ball well, but we came together and showed our composure."

Prague were led by an astonishing 39 points from Candice Dupree, and while Laia Palau didn't get the fairytale finish her career may deserve - she did keep racking up the assists on the final weekend of her EuroLeague Women career.
